This weekend, I had my first experience with a book signing at a street fair. This is an annual event in my hometown and is always packed with people perusing the various arts and crafts for sale by vendors, not specifically for books. This did give me a chance to interact with a few of our local authors and experience the event from inside the ropes. Though I did sell a couple of books and get some good exposure, I’m not sure it was a valuable use of a valuable weekend afternoon. Later that evening, my wife and I attended a party at the home of a friend which had nothing to do with me or books. I did, however, spend the entire evening answering questions about my writing and, I think, made quite a few fans that will evolve into book buyers and local marketers to their friends. In short, I believe intense time with a few is better than brief exposure to a lot.
